is excited to announce the 3rd Annual St. Martins Parade for 2005.
It will take
place in the Sunset Creek Subdivision in Chapel Hill. We will meet in
the backyard of 103 Michael's Way (NC 27516) on Friday November 11, 2005
at 6:30 pm.
Please, park in the parking area to your left as you enter the subdivision
or as close to the entrance as possible. We are trying to avoid cars within
the neighborhood when the children start the procession. It is just too
dangerous. For those of you who know Chapel Hill, there is ample parking
in the close by parking lot of McDougle Elementary and Middle School (810
Old Fayetteville Rd).
We will gather,
light our lanterns and follow St. Martin on his horse around the neighborhood
for a short walk.
To celebrate St. Martins we will sing special songs and will be joined
by Fr. Uden on her accordeon.
Please, bring
along your lanterns and lantern sticks!
below are several websites for making these at home. if you don't have
the time, try this website:

We will provide
the Gluehwein (mulled wine) and Weckmaenner (traditional baked good),
please bring along some hot chocolate for the kids.

Help always
welcome! If you can help us by making Weckmaenner or help with organization
on the day, i.e. help kids keep a safe distance from horse, distribute
sheet music, serve Gluehwein, hot chocolate, help clear up, we would love
to hear from you. We are all volunteers and spend a lot of time trying
to make this the best St. Martin ever. With your help it would be much
more fun!

We are looking
forward to seeing you all there.
Here are more ideas we have put together and
websites to look at for different lanterns:
For
the illumination you can use candles or, if you are worried about safety -
Doris Trefzger
has this idea: Laternenstaebe
einfach hinenstecken. Sie faellt dann garantiert nicht um. ( in very brief translation
Doris suggests to buy "Kid's frightlights" by Pumpkinmaster at Michael's
and just use the battery powered candle by sticking a piece of "Aquafoam"
at the bottom of your lantern and the candle in that)
Kerstin
Finke suggests: 1) the kid's fright
lights can be bought at Walmart as well- for $3.94. It might be worthwhile
getting hold of them now as they will be discontinued after Halloween.
2)
"Transparenzpapier" can be ordered on the following website: https://www.saxarts.com/
If
you are looking for "Pergamentpapier" Jeannette Stargala suggests to
buy normal "construction paper" and treat it with oil to make it more
see-through.
